GEI co-hosted an in-person event with the Sony Pictures Television – Nonfiction (SPTN) team at their New York City offices. Speakers shared their experiences working in nonfiction entertainment, including their career journeys and their current day-to-day responsibilities at their respective companies. Following the panel, attendees participated in a professional development workshop and group networking sessions with representatives from the company.
GEI’s Annual Bootcamp was a daylong workshop that provided targeted professional development training, company partner panels, guest speakers, and networking opportunities for our participants. Participants attended a fireside chat with actor Olly Sholotan, and heard from speakers from DreamWorks Animation, Creative Coalition of Color, AGBO, and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Attendees heard from panelists at the WME Talent Agency in New York City about early career development, including how to build and leverage their network, and grow their career.
GEI collaborated with Paramount Television Studios to host a site visit at their NYC offices. Attendees heard from a variety of professionals working in Casting, Late Night, Production, and Human Resources. After the panel, attendees participated in a speed networking activity with the panelists.
In collaboration with Half Initiative, this workshop focused on how to connect with hiring managers from productions, resume shaping, interview etiquette, what the production assistant (PA) job actually entails, and how to stand out as a PA.
In honor of Women’s History Month, GEI collaborated with Lionsgate to highlight the Women Behind Wick. Executives and industry professionals who worked on the “John Wick” film series provided insight into their career journeys and shared advice for those entering the industry, focusing on gender-related barriers.
GEI’s sister organization, Creative Ladder, hosted “Breaking Into Filmmaking as a Creator of Color” with special guest Spike Lee. He was joined on the virtual stage by three of today’s most talented rising commercial directors: Joshua Kissi, Bethany Mollenkof, and Ritesh Gupta. They shared their advice on getting started in filmmaking, turning it into a career, and making the most of your first breaks, among several other topics.
GEI hosted a virtual Resume Workshop covering topics from formatting and structure to strengthening job descriptions with the STAR method. Attendees also had the chance to provide feedback on each other’s resumes in breakout rooms and ask the GEI team questions.
Paramount Pictures hosted their 11th Annual ‘I Have A Dream’ Day in collaboration with GEI to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to professionals from Paramount Pictures as they shared their non-traditional career paths into entertainment.
